  Abstract:
N-ras and K-ras genes mutations have been implicated in several hematopoietic malignancies. However, there are limited available data regarding ras mutations in childhood lymphomas. In the current study, we investigated the presence of codon 12 point mutations of N-ras and K-ras genes in such malignancies occurring in childhood. Paraffin sections from 40 cases of childhood lymphomas were examined, using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique combined with RFLP analysis. Codon 12 point mutation of N-ras was found only in one case of t-lymphoblastic non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), while codon 12 point mutations of K-ras were not detected in any case examined. The absence of N-ras and K-ras codon 12 point mutations in the cases of childhood lymphomas examined in this study, suggests that ras genes do not seem to play a key role in the development of childhood lymphomas.
