HOSPITAL-AT-HOME: PROSPECT OF A MAJOR DIGNITY OF LIFE FOR ADVANCED CANCER PATIENTS - PART I
Franco PANNUTI, Stephan TANNEBERGER
  DOI:
  Abstract:
In industrialized countries the death from cancer more and more will be less a dramatic termination of fruitful life but the normal biological end of life. Life is not endless. The next century needs a different strategy in oncology: more prevention to save time of life of young people and better assistance to save dignity for all those dying from cancer as the normal end o life. The results achieved with advanced home care technologies will help to deal with these problems. While worldwide now it is agreement that home care plays a fundamental role in the future strategy in palliative care there is no final agreement about the question which home care approach meets existing needs best. Based on ten years experience with the hospital-at-home approach within the ANT Eubiosia programme we recommend the hospital-at-home as the model for home care which meets patients needs best and which can be organized with acceptable cost-efficacy.
