St. Sava; The King’s Church in Studenica: A fresco painting from 14th century
Typicon of St. Sava from the monastery Studenica, like the typicon of Hilandar, originated from the Evergetid typicon. It was written at the beginning of the 13th century. In Chapter 40 of this famous typicon there are records about the monastery hospital and its organization

Description:
“About hospital and helpers; I have already said something about our ill brothers. It is Prior’s duty to take care of them. Therefore, we command to select a kellion that will resemble a well-maintained hospital, furnish it with beds for patients to rest, and with a helper to help them when they need. If there are many patents two helpers should be assigned; and a big, movable open-hearth furnace made of copper should be provided to heat water, meals, and drink for patients. The Prior should visit patients and bring them everything they need. The patients should not be excessive in their behavior and ask for things they have never heard of or seen before, but should be restrained and modest and satisfied with the things and services the monastery can provide them with. If you serve them do not allow them to be too demanding! We think that they should live modestly as it is appropriate for monks and let them get a reward. So let it be.”
