Budd-Chiari syndrome is a rare clinical entity resulting from obstruction of venous outflow from the liver, with consequent portal hypertension, ascites and progressive hepatic failure. Morphological characteristics of the disease make it possible for MRI to establish the correct suspicion of the disease state, together with other necessary clinical and laboratory findings, allowing the start of the therapy on time.
  Key words: Budd-Chiary; MRI
