  IMAGE ANALYSIS OF CHROMOSOMES SUBJECTED TO HG-BANDING AND FLUORESCENT IN SITU HYBRIDIZATION (FISH)

  Abstract:
  The use of cooled Charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras and recently developed software (GIS) offer a new opportunities for analysis of chromosomes subjected to HG - banding. We evaluated the efficiency and sensitivity of CCD microscopy in the detection of the genomic origin of marker chromosome with partial trisomy in the bone marrow of the patient with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS-RA). The results of our fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) studies with DNA probes, performed for identification of chromosomal origin of the marker chromosome in metaphases, confirm previous findings. Ability of this procedure to integrate fluorescence signals has contributed to the increase in sensitivity of FISH in interphase cells.
