ABSTRACT
From June 2000 to June 2003 134 patients (out of which 52 (34%) were female patients) treated with X-ray therapy for the tumor were analyzed. We analyzed female patients who were irradiated because of colorectal carcinoma, those who had already been treated for some other malignant disease of pelvis (uterus, cervix, and ovaries), and female patients with locally advanced rectal carcinoma. The dilemma concerning the treatment of the local recidivism in vagina and bladder was the subject of discussion among numerous specialists: gynecologists, radiologists, surgeons-urologists, and oncologists. The discussion focused on the sequence of treatment: brachytherapy, teletherapy, surgical intervention and chemotherapy. The conclusion of the discussion, after consulting the literature is to apply individual approach for each patient, and to pay attention to complications which can appear during therapy procedures such as: rectovesical and rectovaginal fistulas, adhesions of the small bowel which could lead to ileus, necrosis of the tumor, general intoxication, etc.
