  ABSTRACT
Malignant melanoma, once rare cancer, today achives almost epidemical proportions world-wide. To analyze our experience treating malignant melanoma of the skin between 1994 and 2003. 232 patients with malignant melanoma were analyzed. Topics discussed in this abstract include patients age, gender and occupation, TNM classification, Clark and Breslow histopathological classification, location of cancer, type of surgery, postoperative care and three year survival rate. 108 patients (47%) treated with radical excision, radical excision with lymph node dissection (immediate or delayed) was performed in 102 patients (44%) and 22 patients (9%) were treated with Pack operation. Subsequent regional lymph node dissection was performed in 65 patients and local relapse excision was performed in 8 patients. Three year survival rate was 80% (185 patients). The incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing. Survival rate following surgical procedure as well as the lengh of survival have increased, however these two parameters, besides adequate surgical treatment, depend on the stadium of the disease.
